the Light Leaks

The Light Leaks was created in 2016 by Kim Hoyos, during her junior year of college. Since she did not find spaces to grow as a creator and connect with others - she created one online for filmmakers she knew that were facing the same issue.

From dorm room to LLC, the Light Leaks has grown as a community and content hub in the name of female and nonbinary filmmakers. By creating a space for these rising creators to celebrate their work, connect with others, learn new skills, and find support on their creative journeys, The Light Leaks contributes to a generation of media change makers who will continue to shift the tide in Hollywood.

Through an editorial website with interviews and information, spotlights on rising creators, offline and digital events, and social media - TLL lives its mission of equitable resources for and the advancement of marginalized creators.

As of 2022, the team consists of 10+ volunteers who all identify as women and nonbinary creatives - working remotely across the USA and internationally to support rising filmmakers in their journey. The Light Leaks’ impact has been noted in the press by People en Espanol, Ms. Magazine, Bust Magazine, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, and more.

Kim hopes to scale the light leaks as a production company and continue to serve and celebrate female and nonbinary filmmakers.
